The current situation we find ourselves in shows once again what is really important in life. Many people are getting through the crisis well. Many companies are currently posting record profits. But as always in life, there are losers as well as winners who are suffering from the pandemic crisis. For us, it is a matter of the heart to support people in need and to do our part for society. So we got together virtually and thought about in which area we offer our support.
Due to political decisions schools are closed again and again and distance education is ordered. However, the prerequisite for so-called home schooling is that the students have access to both technical equipment and the Internet. Even though it is hard to imagine in Germany today, it still happens too often that these two criteria are not met. And that’s where our initiative comes in. We still have the laptops…
The laptop has a “life after“
The rule of thumb is that the longer an electronic device is in use, the better it is for the environment. Instead of disposing of an outdated laptop, it often just needs a reset to get going with improved performance. In the end, we came up with 7 laptops that were no longer in use but were in super condition. So why not donate them to needy children who need them much more than we do?
For our donation in kind, we chose the Lessing-Realschule in a socially deprived area of Gelsenkirchen. The interim principal told us that a large number of his students and their families come from war zones and have only been living in Germany for a short time. For these children, access to education is particularly difficult.
True to the motto “Don’t talk, do!”, our colleague Alexander handed over the refurbished notebooks directly to the two student representatives. In this way, we were able to ensure that disadvantaged children can now take part in online lessons and have fair opportunities for the future.
And we also take care of the support for the devices. Donations that go where they are needed. We are pleased that we could do our part to make the world a little bit better.
